Established in 1999, the Swedish Baltic Sea Water Award recognizes outstanding efforts to improve the marine environment in the Baltic Sea.

The Swedish Baltic Sea Water Award is a prize established by the Swedish Government to honor direct, practical initiatives that help improve the quality of the water in the Baltic Sea.

It is intended primarily to recognize innovations and new methods in pursuit of a cleaner Baltic Sea environment.  The prize may be awarded to individuals, companies, organizations or public services.

A jury appointed by the Swedish Government reviews the nominations and selects the winner, which can come from any of the Baltic Sea countries: Belarus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia or Sweden. The winner receives an award of 250,000 SEK along with a crystal sculpture.

The Swedish Institute administers the award since 2011. It was previously administered by Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI).
