Big network seminar ends YLVP 2010

2010.05.31

Today, Young Leaders Visitors Program (YLVP) ends with a network seminar under the theme Viral networks for global impact and both Swedish and international experts concerned with freedom of expression, social media and human rights will be attending. The seminar provides a platform for the participants from which to launch their projects and establish important ties for the future. The day will be streamed live. Follow us at www.ylvp.se

A total of 27 leading young opinion makers from Sweden and the MENA* region have spent three intensive weeks exchanging thoughts and experiences lead by world-class speakers and process leaders. The participants are leading advocates of these principles in their native countries and have been responsible for widely publicized campaigns, controversial articles and smart ways of evading the censor.

“In the West and particularly in Sweden we often speak about the lack of democracy in the Middle East,”says Javeria Rizvi Kabani, the YLVP project leader at SI. “We claim that we need to do more to support democracy in the region. However, we do not need to support democracy; instead we need to support people who are democratic forces. Young men and women are risking their lives to get the free word out to the world.”

The projects will be presented in Pecha Kucha form and will then be “grilled” by a jury on stage. Other points on the agenda include “speed networking” with participants and invited guests, an opening address by Kristine Low, and a performance by the Movits pop group. The moderator for the day will be comedian Lena Frisk.
