Women aiming at social change – apply now to She Entrepreneurs 2012
2011.10.21
In 2011 the Swedish Institute launched the pilot of a leadership program for young female social entrepreneurs: She Entrepreneurs. It proved to be a successful and acclaimed program, and we are now announcing the call for applications to She Entrepreneurs 2012.
The aim of the program is to endorse human rights and democracy and to strengthen young, driven women through inspiration and by providing new digital tools and a unique network between the participants and partners.
Annika Rembe, Director-General, Swedish Institute, says: “Societies all over the world are facing new social, economic and environmental challenges. Challenges which are so complex that they can only be overcome by developing new methods, tools and processes. By creating forums for entrepreneurship and building links between our different countries we can help address these challenges.”
She Entrepreneurs is targeting female social entrepreneurs in Sweden, North Africa and the Middle East. For 2012 we are expanding the program. As well as the participating countries from last year – Egypt, Syria, Jordan, West Bank/Gaza and Iran – participants from Sweden, Algeria, Morocco, Yemen, Lebanon and Tunisia can now also take part. Accepting Swedish participants is important to strengthen relations in the network between Sweden and the other participating countries.
The She Entrepreneurs participants are female leaders with a will and ambition to change social injustice in their respective contexts through a social project. They have an aspiration to widen their international network within the context of social entrepreneurship.
“This experience gave me the chance to be exposed to new tools and techniques in designing, implementing and marketing my business idea. I would highly recommend participation”, says a Palestinian participant from 2011.
She Entrepreneurs 2012 will start in March in Stockholm, Sweden, where the participants meet for one week to develop their project idea and to take part in social entrepreneurship training and coaching.
