Proficiency tests
There are several recognized tests available that measure proficiency in the Swedish language: Swedex, Tisus and the Certificate in Business Swedish.
SWEDEX — examinations in Swedish as a foreign language
Swedex is an international certificate in Swedish as a foreign language that can be taken in Sweden or abroad.
Swedex relates to the Council of Europe level of attainment scale, in the same way as several other language exams in many European countries. It is available at three levels: A2, B1 and B2. All language skills are tested, with an emphasis on communicative competence.
Mock examinations including listening comprehension tests with sound are available at the Swedex website. Specifications for both examinations can also be found on the website as well as information on test centres, prices and dates of examination.
For further information see the Swedex website.
Test in Swedish for University Studies – TISUS
The Test in Swedish for University Studies (Tisus) is intended to establish eligibility for Swedish-language university studies. Tisus includes reading comprehension, oral presentation and written composition. The test fee is SEK 1,600.
The test is held several times a year, both in Sweden and at a number of Swedish embassies/schools outside of Sweden. The fee is SEK 2,000 if taken outside of Sweden. Extra charges may be payable to the embassy, university or school where the test is held.
For further information see the Tisus website.
Certificate in Business Swedish for Non-Native Speakers of Swedish
The certificate in business Swedish was established by the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce. It is available at one basic level and one more advanced. The examinations are intended as a complement to more general Swedish language tests. Examinations can be taken twice a year at Företagsuniversitetets office in Stockholm, Sweden. Examinations can also be held outside Sweden if there are sufficient applicants.
For further information see Företagsuniversitetet.
