We promote cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region

The Swedish government has entrusted SI’s Baltic Sea Unit with the task of supporting cooperation in the Baltic Sea region. We do this by providing Swedish organizations with funding, useful advice and help in finding partners in our collaborating countries.
We award project funding to state organizations/agencies, including universities and colleges, municipalities, regions, regional councils and county councils, as well as business trade organizations and non-governmental organizations/non-profit associations. Our collaborating countries are:
• Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland
• Russia (mainly the northwest part)
• Ukraine, Belarus
• Moldova, Georgia (only academic collaborations) Our priority areas are:
• Environment and energy
• Social issues and health
• Civil safety and security
• Innovation and regional development Two forms of funding:
We offer two forms of financial assistance – seed funding and funding for thematic partnerships. Read more about them here.
